WELCOME
A very warm welcome to Honiton Primary School. This may be your first contact with us, and from the outset we would like to emphasise that this is a school where we try to live out the phrase “People Matter Most”.
We are a large primary school set between the High Street and the bypass in this pleasant Devon market town. We have an extensive site and a beautiful view. The original buildings are of the 1930 quadrangle design with long corridors and square classrooms. We have a well resourced Library and part time Librarian. There is a newer building consisting of six classrooms, toilets, cloakrooms and offices, in 2001 we had a further addition to the school consisting of six new classrooms housing years 3 and 4, and a fully equipped computer suite maintained by our in-house ICT Technician. In 2007 we opened our Foundation Unit and refurbished Key Stage One classrooms. The Foundation Unit is a large learning environment for our youngest children aged 3 to 5 years.
The school currently has about 330 children and 17 teaching staff. East Devon’s Hearing Support Centre is also based here. Both the governing body and the parent network are very supportive and active. The staff, the governors and above all the children, will appreciate and enjoy your interest and involvement in the life of the school. We have a very robust security system in place, and would point out that access into school is restricted via the main office where a visitors badge will be provided.
FIRST OF ALL . . .
We may well meet you if you bring your young children to one of the playgroups. If you would like your child to attend Honiton Primary please complete an admissions form [copies available from the school office]. When your child nears the age of three, we will contact you about the arrangements. During the Early Years we see you each day and hope that we shall get to know each other very well.
CONTACT
The administrative staff are in the office from 8.15am – 4.15pm. It should be easy to contact the school during these hours. If you want to see your child’s teacher, it is normally easy to speak to her/him before 9.00am or at 3.15pm If you need longer to talk, please make an appointment. The head teacher tries to be available as often as possible to see you and hopes that you will always make contact about any matter, which concerns you. Everyone aims to be extremely approachable.
We believe that your child’s success at school is dependent upon us building
an open and honest relationship with you. We invite all parents to a meeting
with their child’s class teacher every term. This provides you with a regular
update on how well you child is doing and enables us to discuss with you how
you can further support your child with their learning.
